Desolate Places

I have recently retuned from a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Palestine. It was my second visit in five years.  It is not lost on me that many people would give anything to see the land where Jesus walked just once in their lifetime… I’ve been twice, and God willing, I will get there again.

To see her from the Temple mount, to run her streets by night and tour by day… Jerusalem. To see in close proximity some of the world’s most precious events leaves an impression on a believer. Reading the words of Jesus in their place of origin can be quite illuminating. It puts so much in perspective.

Jesus the Messiah did His work in a geographical area that is smaller than my previous imaginings. After seeing it with my own eyes… Bethsaida, Jericho, and Nazareth are no longer Biblical fairylands of my imagination. They are real cities. Towns that, in their day, influenced our Lord and were influenced by Him…the names of whose occupants we remember to this day.

Even the very nature in these areas creates a more visceral response to Jesus’ words and wanderings. For instance, after experiencing the topography of Israel, the Parable of the Soils takes on a whole different meaning. The comparison of visiting the Sea of Galilee after growing up on the shore of one of the midwestern Great Lakes was also revealing. My son summed it up with, “The Sea of Galilee is surprisingly small.” Now, it is easier to grasp how close the region of the Gerasenes (where our Lord performed a miracle) was to His home base in Capernaum.

Desolate Places.

On my first pilgrimage, it was outside a ruin in the ancient city of Caesarea Philippi (Golan Heights) that I had my first epiphany.  As I stood there looking at the ancient temple of the Greek god, Pan (the god of desolate places), I wondered, why did Jesus bring His disciples here? (Mark 8:27) Back in Jesus’ day this was Gentile territory. No Jew would be hanging out in Caesarea Philippi. There were no synagogues, and there was a big temple dedicated to Pan where his worshippers performed child sacrificies.

In this area, Jesus asks His disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” Peter answered the question correctly then epiphany; “I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it… Gates of hell? To the ancient Jewish mind (and to mine), hell very well could have been the temple of Pan, where children were sacrificed for crops. It was gated much like our abortion clinics are today, where children are sacrificed to the god of Choice.

The bewildering similarity is that our churches are gated as well. In that moment, I realized that Jesus was modeling His church. He was demonstrating how it should function, where it should… GO… storming the gates of Hades. What have we done with this rock (truth)?

The truth of Jesus’ example of church struck me again on our recent pilgrimage. While visiting Jacob’s well (a two days walk from Jesus’ hometown of Nazareth), we were reminded of Jesus’ conversation with the woman at the well. She was a Samaritan, worse than a Gentile—a Jew Gentile mix (think Muslim in terms of the societal pariah scale)!  After Jesus accurately and supernaturally laid bare her personal life, and she rightfully deduced that Jesus was… special, she went all religious on Him; talking temple and rightful ways and places to worship. Then the epiphany… “Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father… But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.”

(John 4:23-24)

By the time the disciples came back, the woman had gone back to the town spreading the word about someone… special.

Someone Special.

Instead of erecting walls around places of worship, what would our communities look like if we went camping with Jesus? I mean He and His disciples did model it for us. Why did it change? Who changed it? There are answers to those questions for all who dare to pursue the truth… But be warned! When you begin to question people who teach manmade ideas as commands of God, feathers will be ruffled. For me it took a pilgrimage to realize that what we call church today is not the rock that Jesus built of Peter’s confession.

You might want to start your pilgrimage with a few books to challenge your thinking on the issue. Allow me to suggest two books to get you started. First, Pagan Christianity?:  Exploring the Roots of Our Church Practices by Frank Viola and George Barna. This book comes with a strong warning and with good reason. Once you learn where many of our cherished Christian practices come from, it may challenge you to think differently.  Second is Viral Jesus: Recovering the Contagious Power of the Gospel by Ross Rohde. There are places where the Jesus of scripture is interacting with His church in very profound ways very much in the same way He did with the early church which begs a question Would we recognize our Lord if He were to worship among us? Better yet, would He recognize His rock?

Is the A-10 made with Chinese parts? Somebody should ask Senator Jeff Flake because he's not returning my calls since his vote against the "made in the USA ALL AMERICAN Wart Hog!!!"

Just one more reason to question the Air Force, Congress and The Flake.

By the way... anybody else getting fed up with the government cavalierly bending and breaking the law to suit its whims?

Pima County’s 6 Million-Dollar Man?

Meet Martin Willet. He is the Deputy Chief County Administrator for Pima County and #2 guy to Chuck Huckleberry.

He’s also an avid bike rider who recently took a spill on Tucson’s stellar streets.

According to the lawsuit that he filed AGAINST the county, he was hurt bad, real bad. So much so that his wife’s law firm is suing you and me (the taxpayers of Pima County) for a whopping 6 Million dollars!

(Actually he’s suing for 5 Mill, his wife’s pain and suffering goes for a million.) *Sniff Turns out he healed in time to attend the Governors State of the State address, I’m told he walked to the Pima County table (where he was greeted by The Chuckster himself) without a cane or a wheelchair.

Senator Fake's Gang Mistake

According to the Arizona Daily Star, Senator Jeff the Flake is proud to be a gang member... A gangster. Webster defines gangster: a member of a group of violent criminals;

Not a definition I would want attributed to me, especially as a US Senator, but
Senator "Fake" Oops!, I mean Flake, has different ideals. No scratch that, he doesn't have ideals; he is only driven by what increases his power. Public service, right? Someone worried only about his own gain and not those he pretends to serve. Just like McCain, another Flake, Oops! I meant fake! Two of The Gang of 8 are Arizonans... Sigh. I wonder what Chucky Shumer thinks about the A-10? Is he on the same page as Senator Flake? The Arizona Daily Star reported Flakes latest positon of the fate of the A-10. When asked, "Would you support retiring the A-10 as a cost-saving measure?" Flake replied: "The long-term schedule is for the F-35 to take the place of the A-10.The problem is right now you don’t have anything to fill the A-10’s slot to provide close air support. The F-35 is a long way off.Ultimately, if the F-35 can take that place, fine. But in the interim, we “probably need the A-10. I don’t think the A-10 mission will end quickly."

"I don't think the A-10 mission will end quickly." Nice... More 'fakiness' from Flake seeing he reciently voted against extending the life of A-10. I think Flake should have stopped at, "I don't think..."

In an age of news on demand we are all made aware of things that happen around our nation; we seem to hear more of the bad than good. Perhaps this is human nature, but snarky, mean-spirited events spread like wildfire through television and social media. One need not employ mental gymnastics to recognize that the current trend is toward demonizing conservatives. Think of conservative Ted Cruz and the hatred he has received since refusing to bend with the über flexible Republican establishment. It seems, however, that the most hateful language and actions are reserved for women. Just a few years ago, Playboy printed a blog listing the top 10 conservative women with whom Playboy writer Guy Cimbalo would like to commit an obscene sexually violent act. That blog was taken down, and an apology was issued. Of course the abuse that Sarah Palin suffered from the media comes to mind. How about Michelle Malkin or Elisabeth Hasselbeck who have both been called names and ridiculed for their heartfelt conservative beliefs. Think of Michele Bachman and the hateful song the Roots played when she appeared on Jimmy Fallon. The liberal media has had it’s own war on women conservatives.

This national trend of hatred of conservative women seems to have trickled down to the local level. It has enabled a culture of disdain and vitriol toward Pima County Supervisor Ally Miller, that is creating a dangerous climate of intolerance. Up until this point the media, for it’s part, has done little in the way of fair and balanced reporting. In fact, the biased reporting against Miller is taking a disturbing turn.

Ally Miller has been falsely accused of extravagance for spending $108 on lunch for five people at the Ritz Carlton where she had a staff meeting, and had photos taken for her Pima County Supervisor website at no charge. Although it is illegal for a business to print a patron’s entire credit card number out of respect for safety and privacy, KVOA had no ethical or legal concerns with posting Miller’s credit card information online for the entire world to hack, thereby exposing her to all manner of identity theft.

The Arizona Daily Star printed false and misleading information about Supervisor Miller spending $1500 on a chair (it was a conference table), and has not corrected the story that was printed on the first page of section A of their paper. The spending report has been unfairly focused on Miller, since there was no mention of the $58,000 dollar TREO trip to San Diego where a Councilman got drunk, or the fact that Pima County paid the $2,000 bill for Chuck Huckelberry.

In further unbalanced reporting, theTucson Weekly’s Jim Nintzel coordinated a hit piece against Miller with Supervisor Ramon Valadez. Ally Miller has recently pointed out that Valadez has a special $7 million dollar fund to use as he pleased from the $350 million dollar bond election. Huckelberry confirmed that the city wanted the money so they put it in a special fund for Mr. Valadez. No other Supervisor had this special treatment. The Nintzel-Valadez piece tried to portray Miller as using road repair money for her own benefit. They showcased a map of her neighborhood, and fellow Supervisor Valadez disclosed the name of Ally Miller’s street, thereby exposing her family to the threats and intimidation that previously only Miller herself has had to endure. This is not the way a fellow board member should behave--even towards someone they may disagree with ideologically.

Thanks to the inaccurate reporting and inappropriate disclosures, in the last month Ally Miller has had to have a threatening man removed from her office, her financial information exposed, and now the location of her family home. It appears as though some Board of Supervisor democrats and those left of this particular conservative woman are creating an atmosphere that could lead to violence; the same atmosphere that they accused right wing conservatives of cultivating leading up to the shooting of Gabby Giffords. As a result, taxpayers now have to pay for continuous patrols around Miller’s home. If the threats and unsavory overtures continue, the Miller family could need a full time security detail like Mayor Jonathan Rothschild.

Strangely, there is no outrage in reaction to all this. In fact, via the Daily Star, Tim Stiller has suggested that although the facts may point to retaliation, Ally Miller needs to learn to go along with the board and play the game. Regardless of the statistics that show Miller voting with the board majority 90-95% of the time, to suggest that one play a political game to avoid retaliation for standing up for taxpayers is ridiculous and less than honest. One thing Pima County residents expect from Ally Miller, the woman who has singlehandedly brought video accountability to the Board of Supervisors is honesty. Her transparency and commitment to letting the taxpayers know what is happening with their money and their trust is proven weekly during ‘Miller Time’ on the James T. Harris show on 104.1 The Truth.

Transparency, truth and accountability are the things Ally Miller brings to the Pima County Board of Supervisors. Instead of stepping up to the raised standard of leadership, the Board sinks to new lows in attacking one of its own. A house divided cannot stand, and infighting and backstabbing will not strengthen or unify a governing body. The people of Tucson and Pima County deserve better. In decrying the treatment Ally Miller has received, the people declare that integrity is the new standard of politics, not ‘playing the game’.

Take note Board of Supervisors. The people you serve will hold you accountable with their vote.

"Soylent Green" is a 1973 American science fiction film that depicts the investigation into the murder of a wealthy businessman in a dystopian future suffering from pollution, overpopulation, depleted resources, poverty, dying oceans, and a hot climate due to the greenhouse effect." - Wikipedia.

In other words the movie was an environmental progressive’s wet dream.

In the movie, much of the population survives on processed food rations, including "soylent green” which we learn from Charlton Heston, was made of people!

This is how liberals saw the future in the early 70’s.

It’s the way Al Gore sees the future now… What is truly disturbing and horrific is that the progressive’s science fiction of the 70’s has become reality.

Soylent Green was a science fiction film set in the year 2022. But THIS horror story is taking place here and now.

House Speaker John Boehner is coming to Arizona on the 29th to support two Republican candidates who have contested primaries.

Contested primaries…
In other words the Empire (who I no longer speak for) is striking back against conservatives by doing what the Main Stream media does… He’s picking our candidates! Why else would Speaker Boehner (the crying, Cowardly Lion in search of courage personified) insert himself in a Republican primary?
Because my friends, Boehner is bona fide Establishment and the Establishment has made it’s choice: Andy (Too lame to campaign) Tobin and Martha ‘Mustang’ McSally… (Lie Sally Lie!).

It is not a coincidence that conservatives like Adam Kwasman are getting the cold shoulder. The old guard never savored the taste of tea (party) and Captain Arizona is a little bit too Ted Cruse-y. Tub of Tobin is a safe, white…bland, Republican. He’s been tried and found wanting… Perfect!

Mustang McSally, on the other hand, is a Colonel (retired) and is an innovator and trailblazer. *Snicker*. She was the first woman in U.S. history to command a Fighter Squadron in combat and the first woman in history to take off in an A-10 Wart Hog without gassing it up! True story. Incidentally, my wife does that all the time, only she’s not “driving” an 8 million dollar angel of death. That and the fact that the Air Force has covered over a myriad of McSally missteps makes Martha “Mustang” McSally uniquely qualified to be supported by… The Establishment.

I have a suggestion. If you find this Horn Fest nauseating (Event sponsor, $10,400 per person!!!) Cut a check to Kwasman for $104.00 or $10.40. Either way, it will be money well spent and it will send a message. All I can say about Boehner’s endorsement of Mustang McSally is I’m thinking about trying some Crispy Chicken… even though I know it will give me the runs!

As heard with James T. Harris, Tuesday March 25, 2014 (podcast)

It is often said in leadership that attitudes flow from the top down. With Senator Jeff Flake at the helm is there any wonder that his staffer flaked out??? In an event in Tubac that was billed as an opportunity to talk with Senator Flake’s staffers, the host of the event was late…and alone. All alone. In fact, the only person that showed up for the event (on time I might add) was the reporter who shared this picture.

The reporter asked some difficult questions, like “How did you promote this event?” The answer? Via email to Senator Flake’s supporters. When asked why Sen. Jeff Flake will not support the A-10, the staffer said that he would “submit a constituent action form about it.” He looked very uncomfortable and declared that he had to go to the bathroom. As the reporter left the building this picture was taken.

The staffer was spotted running far from the building and making a frantic phone call. When he returned from ‘the bathroom’ it was confirmed with the staffer that not one of Sen. Jeff Flake’s friends attended his event in Tubac. On his way out, the staffer was heard telling the receptionist that he would be back someday.

The receptionist shouldn’t count on it.
